The International Aeronautics and Civil Aviation Observatory (IACAO) is a research unit, recognized by the School of Management ESG UQAM, that was officially launched in 2019, in the presence of key industry players.
The Observatory’s mandate is twofold. First, it aims to enlighten the social debate and contribute to the general public’s awareness of economic, managerial and technological challenges in the aeronautics and civil aviation sector.
Secondly, the Observatory aims to generate and share scientific knowledge with industrial and institutional players in Quebec and Canada, and to identify emerging weak signals while drawing comparisons with other industry clusters on a global scale.
To achieve this mandate, the Observatory will rely on various knowledge transfer formats, such as cartographies, periodic newsletters, local media interventions, thematic reports, and dissertations and doctoral theses posted on the website.
In addition, the Observatory will organize conferences and workshops for practitioners, as well as an annual forum that will review the state of affairs and advances in the industry.
Through these diversified activities, the Observatory is committed to scientific vulgarization and knowledge dissemination in order to provide political decision-makers, the media and civil society with the means to go beyond the shortcuts and approximations that often abound in the public debate, and to actively participate in the development of the aeronautics and civil aviation sector in Quebec and Canada.
The Observatory is led by full professor Mehran Ebrahimi, with the support of a coordination and research team formed by Captain Hans Obas, and Ph.D. candidates in management Nacer Laalaj, Nassam Assouma and Hassan Pishdadian.
